“Everybody on a championship team doesn’t get publicity, but everyone can say he’s a champion.”

Teaming UP

I’ve watched the most talented teams in terms of individual talent lose to teams that are not so athletically gifted, because the less talented team operated on principles close to what’s being explained in Maxwells book The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork. When you operate on the power of vision and the overall team success, it generates a higher probability for ALL team members to “Buy in”. Meaning team members are more likely to adopt the mindset of winning over personal agendas.  I have also seen coaches deny very popular and super talented players to join their franchises purely based off that player’s history and mentality. These types of individuals unfortunately can contaminate locker room moral and throw a monkey wrench in already successful systems. On the flip side, there are individuals who have that personal agenda type mindset who can be transformed by the “law of the big picture” and adopt a whole new set of thinking based off that company’s culture of success.  I realized as well in my personal life, that insecurity can force you to become isolated. I’ve been successful in areas of my life personally but realized that there were plateaus that I was restricted to reach because I was competing against teams as an individual.  I find solace in knowing that my partners and I have a vision for our company Rooted Capital, and the vision at its core will serve the good of the public and generate an overall well-being for the planet that we live on. This gives us purpose. Theres nothing more gratifying than waking up with purpose in mind. It’s followed by feelings of positivity, your resistance toward struggle becomes more powerful and you also inspire people in the process.  I used to think that humility meant walking with your head down and being submissive to a degree where you become so silent that your silence becomes a form of nobility. I am realizing now that humility is in fact making others around you successful. Being silent is a powerful tool at times-when listening is more important, but opening your mouth and addressing the big picture when needed will be of great significance. No one can avoid this journey if they want to become truly successful.

Throughout The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork, Maxwell stresses several key themes that are crucial for team success: PLEASE APPLY!

  • Synergy: The combined efforts of a well-coordinated team create greater results than the sum of individual contributions. Teamwork, when executed properly, leads to a synergy where the team can achieve far more than any one person could on their own.
  • Diversity: A strong team thrives on diversity—different skills, experiences, and perspectives lead to more creative solutions and better problem-solving. Maxwell emphasizes that a team must be inclusive and make use of its members’ strengths to reach its goals.
  • Accountability: Every team member has a responsibility to perform at their best and contribute to the team’s objectives. Accountability ensures that everyone stays focused, takes ownership of their actions, and maintains high standards.
  • Commitment: Successful teams are driven by a shared commitment to the mission. Maxwell argues that commitment isn’t just about showing up; it’s about giving your best effort, supporting others, and doing whatever it takes to achieve the team’s goals.
